This portfolio is a compilation of a few of the papers and articles I wrote during my time as a student at Angelo State University. They each display a different facet of my skills as a writer, communicator, and journalist.
#1: Sports Article
This first work is last chronologically. It’s an article I wrote for Angelo State’s student newspaper following the 2026 baseball season finale series. I believe this article demonstrates my love for the game, the creativity I put into my writing, and the effort I put into researching and fact-checking my work. Sports is my passion, and I love the fact that I got to work with, around, and about sports for the two years I was ASU’s Sportswriter.

#2: Political Article
My editor, Braidyn Beyer, and I conducted interviews across multiple majors and political stances to put together a glimpse into Angelo State’s student mindset surrounding the Memo sent out December 1 to all Texas Tech University System schools. The policy places restrictions on the discussion of sex and gender related material. Our interviews and summary demonstrates my ability as a journalist to handle controversial subjects in an objective, professional manner.

#3: Non-Sports Article
Article #3 pushed me outside my comfort zone. One day I was sitting in the Ram Page office when the Editor-in-Chief sent a message asking for a writer to cover a university event on short notice. I was, and still am, primarily sports. I waited to see if another writer was available, but no one picked up the job, so I grabbed a camera and headed to the event. Medical events are well outside my wheelhouse, but I did my best to adapt, and even made a few connections with staff. I include the article as an example of my versatility as a journalist and capacity to overcome hurdles.

#4: Technical Writing
I wrote this set of instructions for my Advanced Technical Writing class at Angelo State University. I also gave a presentation to my class walking them through my instructions. It was an opportunity to learn how to streamline information for a wide audience and take accessibility into account when writing. I also got to practice my public speaking skills, as well as put together an engaging PowerPoint that contains the same instructions.
#5: Award-Winning Short Story
Let me pause and say that I only got third place, but I entered this story in ASU’s undergraduate writing contest in the spring 2026 semester. My story displays my creativity and versatility as a writer. I used a format for this story called “epistolary,” which not a lot of people use effectively at the undergraduate level. It’s difficult to relay information to the reader without resorting to bald exposition, but I believe that I largely succeeded here. I will never be completely happy with anything I write, but I am proud of what I accomplished with my short story.
